CARTE BLANCHE WINES
Hosted by Douglas Warner, GM
Rob Casey, National Sales
6 Wines & Cheese, 6:30 p.m. $30.00

Handcrafted wines made by Luc Morlet. The owner's story: My family has been in the wine business for nearly a century, since my great grandfather, Clarence Dillon, acquired Chateau Haut-Brion in 1935 and our family company, Domaine Clarence Dillon, subsequently purchased Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion in 1983. I gained an early exposure, appreciation, and genuine interest in wine from my family. Eventually, I was inspired to produce my own boutique label in Napa Valley-Carte Blanche.

We'll be tasting all the new releases:  Propietary White, Chardonnay, Sandstone Seven White, Propietary Red, Cabernet Sauvignon, & Syrah.

Wine Advocate 94 Pt: The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon caresses the palate with deep layers of dark red fruit, rose petals, smoke and espresso. It is a bit more voluptuous and sexy than the 2008 in its sleek, polished personality. All of the elements flow gracefully to the huge, textured finish. The 2009 is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019.

Proprietor Nicholas Allen and winemaker Luc Morlet make these Bordeaux-inspired reds. The wines are vinified with natural yeasts and natural bacteria for the malolactic fermentations. The Proprietary Red is a Bordeaux right bank-modeled wine made with Cabernet Franc from To Kalon, Merlot from Newton on Spring Mountain and Cabernet Sauvignon from a vineyard in Calistoga. The Cabernet Sauvignon takes its inspiration from Bordeaux’s left bank. The first vintage for Carte Blanche is 2008.   --Antonio Galloni

Cost: $30 for all six wines produced by the Carte Blance and cheeses
