After years of anticipation and a slight delay, Mississippi is preparing to welcome its very first Buc-ee's, with doors set to open in May 2025. The Texas-based travel station, renowned as the "Disney World of gas stations," is making its mark in Pass Christian along the Gulf Coast—a strategic location for travelers navigating the scenic route between New Orleans and Mobile, Alabama, or enjoying the Mississippi Sound.
A Long Road to Buc-ee’s
Bringing Buc-ee’s to Mississippi was no small feat. The chosen site required the construction of a new overpass at Menge Avenue and Interstate 10 to handle the massive influx of visitors expected daily. The project caused temporary traffic headaches and drew concerns from locals, but Harrison County Development Commission executive director Bill Lavers confirmed the overpass was completed last month.
The store’s construction is well underway, with its foundation laid, walls up, and finishing touches in progress. This 74,000-square-foot facility will include 120 fueling stations, 24 EV charging stations, and a car wash—making it one of the largest Buc-ee’s locations to date.
The Buc-ee’s Experience
Buc-ee’s has built a loyal fan base with its signature offerings. From
Beaver Nuggets to slow-smoked brisket sandwiches, the brand knows how to impress its visitors. But it’s not just the food that sets Buc-ee’s apart. Founder Arch “Beaver” Aplin III’s dedication to providing the cleanest restrooms in the industry has become a cornerstone of the brand. “Everybody thought he was crazy, building his stores around the bathrooms,” Harrison County Development Commission executive director Bill Lavers remarked. “But man, has it paid off.”
The chain has earned accolades for its spotless restrooms, a feature that has travelers going out of their way to visit Buc-ee’s locations.
Excitement Builds
The upcoming Mississippi store is expected to employ over 200 people, with leadership transferring from the Buc-ee’s in Baldwin County, Alabama. Local officials and residents alike are eager to see the economic impact of the store, adding to the $800 million in development projects overseen by Lavers.
