Once the greatest wines in the Western World due to their healing and travelling properties they are now consigned to the upper shelves in stores and after thoughts in books and wine courses.

Here is our chance to re discover the beauty, power, staggering complexity, ageability and damn good value that are fortifieds.

The diversity of styles, grapes and terroir all make for an amazing journey into one of the greatest forgotten wine styles of the last 500 years.

First we need to work out what a Fortified is & how it can be made, then we will look at its history, good and sometimes bad, and where it stands in the market today. Tasting examples from all over the world.

Second we will discover the major and famous regions, looking at Port, Sherry and Maderia.

Third and finally we will uncover some gems from France, Spain, Italy, Australia & South Africa.

I find this continent so interesting and varied yet many of us over look it when it comes to wine, with it’s growing presence, not just at the value for money end but also at the premium end. The two powers are obviously Argentina and Chile and we will show that these two countries make a variety of great wines outside of their marquee Malbec & Cabernet Sauvignon.

We will look at the similarities and differences between the regions, history, soil, aspect, climate, grapes and wine making to get an over view.

Discuss and taste the great wines, look at vintages and find some gems in the hills of Chile & Argentina.
