This is a suggestion by one of our fellow students. I adore these tastings as they really allow one to judge a wine with no preconceptions. After the success of the first class I have tinkered with the format to make it work better for beginners to experts.
We will start with discussing the taste profile of 4 different regions, one of which will be the region being tasted that evening. We will discuss the flavors, characters, texture, style and discuss the grapes involved.
We will then taste the 4 wines from an unidentified region. We will taste through the wines, discuss the attributes of the wine and then ascertain what the region is. Then I will give a brief seminar about the region what to look for, vintages and what to buy.
We will then discuss the taste profile of 4 different grapes, one of which will be the grape being tasted that evening. We will discuss the flavors, characters, texture, style and discuss the potential regions that it comes from.
We will then taste the 4 Wines from an unidentified grape. We will taste through the wines, discuss the attributes of the wine and then ascertain what the grape is and where the 4 wines came from.
Then I will give a brief seminar about the grape, great regions and what to look for and buy.

This is a class that is close to me. My mother was Australian and very proud of it and through her I grew up with a desire to discover her “home”. This I was able to do for 6 years and as a bonus I found my spouse (as my mother did) in a foreign land. Lori and I traveled a lot of the wine regions of Australia from Margaret River to the Hunter Valley (where I worked a vintage) to South Australia and Victoria. It is a truly beautiful country with a huge diversity of fauna and flora. I intend to show you my Australia and what it has to offer with diverse, complex, elegant and powerful wines from many different grape varieties.

The mission at Retreat Hill Winery & Retreat Hill Cellars is to create elegant wines, in a relaxed country setting, inspired by the pioneers who founded Texas.
Opening their first winery in August 2009 and second winery in August 2010, Retreat Hill has worked to create fine wine that is value priced. Since opening, they have crafted 16 wines and have won a total of 15 medals in International competitions.
