The Basics of Wine Tasting
First and foremost wine tasting is and should always be fun.  Wine in the United States has often been skewed to have an aura of snobbery and pretentiousness.  This needs not be so.  In the majority of countries were wine has been consumed for millennia, it is often considered a part of the table--a part of our daily bread, if you will.  Wine is food.  At the same time, wine can be as sublime an experience as is humanly possible to have, often equated with an artistic endeavor or an epiphany of sorts.  That being said, there's also a lot of bad wine out there, particularly now that the demand is ever-increasing.  To keep up with demand many outfits are making wine in a formulaic manner, losing in the process any character or personality a wine may have.  I want to bring to you a basic lesson on the ABC's of wine tasting, which really is actually a process of the olfactory sense.  We will delve into a selection of different types of wines and get a sense of what they tell us.  This is always a very personal and subjective experience.  Join us as we begin to explore this ancient libation, this gift from the gods.
